YOUTH PULSE EXCITES IN ST. GEORGE

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA,Tuesday, December 03, 2013 - GIS: The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Ecclesiastic Affairs on Saturday 30th November staged yet another in its successful Youth Pulse Programs. This is the third Youth Pulse activity for the year since its reintroduction after a five year absence.

Hundreds of youth from St. George as well as many from other parts of the island gathered at the Queens Park Grounds to participate in the various fun and games that were available to keep youth involved in positive activities. The Keeping Patois Alive Project was well received by those gathered. This project is an attempt to rescue the language by passing it on to Grenadian youth. There were fiercely contested games in both male and female small goal football as well as netball and volleyball.

Additionally, the female staff of the Ministry capably led by Minister of Youth, Sport and Ecclesiastic Affairs Hon. Emmalin Pierre defeated Team IMANI in the female Tug of War, while the Ministry’s male Team led by Parliamentary Secretary, Senator Sheldon Scott, was defeated by the male Team IMANI.

The event was graced by the presence of Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, who in his remarks, spoke of the importance of having youth involved in positive activities such as Youth Pulse, as well as ensuring that even more resources be placed into youth development in the 2014 budget.

Minister Pierre made an announcement that youth interested in becoming official members of Youth Pulse can now register with the Ministry and have specific benefits. She stated Youth Pulse was part of ensuring that young people can enjoy their youth in a positive way and signing up was a means of signaling one's intent to be a positive young person. She also called on all young people to be mindful of the real reason for Christmas as it is now seen simply as a time of celebration and a commercial activity.

Youth Pulse moves to the Big Parish of St. Andrew on Saturday 7th December at the Telescope Playing Field from 11.00 a.m. Various games and activities will be taking place, and as usual Digicel will be on hand with special offers.
