Ministry Moves Forward With Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence in 2015

Monday 17th February, 2014: The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs will commence the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC) in 2015.

The Government of Grenada is collaborating with the Caribbean Examinations’ Council (CXC) to provide participants of the New Imani program who lack basic entry requirements, the opportunity to receive competency certification.

It is the intention of the Ministry of Youth to give 500 trainees the opportunity to write two of CXC’s compulsory subject areas Mathematics and English Language.

The CCSLC curriculum developed by the CXC is intended to provide trainees with the knowledge, generic competencies, and attitudes and values that all secondary school leavers should have attained.   A common core of subjects, comprising English, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Modern Languages and Social Studies, was developed to provide trainees with the competencies that will serve as a foundation for more advanced studies, the world of work and life as a citizen of the Caribbean region.

Participants in the CCSLC training will be selected based on the results of a numeracy and literacy assessment, combined with a review of the overall academic and skills qualifications achieved.

Following exams in 2015 a review will be conducted for further implementation of this program.
