ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, March 3, 2015 - GIS:  The Grenada government is working on new measures to ensure Imani trainees remain employed at the end of their internship period.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell has announced that new efforts being considered to keep Imani trainees working are part of plans to further reduce employment in the country.

In a special interview to observe the second anniversary of his administration, the Grenadian leader also revealed that a new batch of Imani trainees is expected to take up duties later this year.

“In addition to looking at taking in another batch later in the year, they (the Ministry) are looking at how we can maintain the opportunities for those already trained,” Dr. Mitchell said.

“So the task now is to get involved in specific activities. Either through the private sector or through small business development whether it’s in tourism or agriculture.  Empowering our people, giving them the resources and support system to create jobs so that the people being trained would not have to go home”.

They are about 3500 Imani trainees performing paid internships in various sectors on the island.
