Richmond Home for the Elderly gets charity support

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, Thursday, January 23, 2014 - GIS: Friends of Richmond Home, a new not-for-profit organization was set up in Grenada to act as a catalyst for support and donations to the Richmond Home for the Elderly.

The Home was set up to welcome Grenada’s most vulnerable elderly when they cannot care for themselves anymore. Most of the residents are elderly people who have lost their independence and do not have family to ensure their care or are destitute. As a result, about 80% of the residents do not benefit from family support.

Despite all the efforts put in place by the staff, the material needs of the home in consumables and equipment is not met by the Government alone and the home substantially relies on donations for everything from washing powder to major repairs to the building. A number of personal items needed are expected to be provided by the residents or their families, such as toothbrush and paste, Vaseline and talc, slippers, etc. Those needs are unmet unless donations are made.

Friends of Richmond Home started their efforts over the Christmas period and raised over EC$ 2,000 with the sale of specially designed Christmas cards. They have now raised an international fund raising campaign to which Grenadians and Grenadians abroad can participate by visiting the website:http://igg.me/at/richmondhome

100% of the proceeds will go to the purchase of needed items for the home. Donations can also be sent by cheque to PO BOX 1125, Grand Anse, St George.

So far, a number of corporate entities have also pledged their support to Friends of Richmond Home, namely Insurance Consultants, Hope City, Veritas Legal, and Pan-American Life Insurance of the Eastern Caribbean.
