Governor General to receive UWI Honorary Degree

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, October 17, 2014 –GIS: Grenada’s Governor General, Dame Dr. Cecile La Grenade, leaves Grenada today, October 17th, for Barbados, where she will be conferred with an honorary degree from the University of the West Indies Cavehill Campus.

At the Graduation ceremony at UWI-Cavehill on Saturday, October 18th, the University, through its Chancellor, will confer on Dame Cecile Fleurette La Grenade the Degree of Doctor of Science,Honoris Causa.

Dame Cecile who already holds a PhD in Food Science is described in the University’s citation to her as “an icon of public life, entrepreneurship, and civil leadership in Grenada; as well as a scholar, and lifelong advocate of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus.”

The Governor General will receive the honorary degree as well as deliver the feature address to the University’s 2014 graduating class, at Saturday’s ceremony.

Dame Cecile returns to Grenada on Sunday, October 19th. In her absence, Former Governor General, Sir Daniel Williams will be the Acting Governor General of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
