ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, May 17, 2017 – GIS: Residents of St. Patrick are rejoicing once more as the Sauteurs Bay sea shore is back.

For years, the people of St. Patrick sat back and watched how the heavy waves lashed against buildings and damaged the sea course.

But now, thanks to the Keith Mitchell led Administration and its Breakwater Project, which falls under the Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Programme, the beach is back.

This project started in July 2016 at a cost of 4.6 million dollars.

It sees the construction of a 1500 ft breakwater structure from the shore out to the sea and towards the old jetty.

Now according to Contractor Don Decaul, the project is well on schedule with some 400 ft remaining to be completed.

“We are pleased; we can see that the beach has come back. We can see that new beaches are being built under Leaper’s Hill. The water has certainly calmed down and I see that the fishermen are now using the bay even to grow seamoss,” Mr. Decaul said.

Parliamentary Representative for St. Patrick West Hon. Anthony Boatswain is elated to see the transformation in the area. He looks forward to a boost in economic development for the historic parish.

“I believe that this just the first phase of what could be a transformative event for St. Patrick. Because once the area is calm, the coastal area is preserved and we create what we call an environment for yachting, then we can see further development taking place. So, I’m very excited about the prospect of future development as a result of this first phase of the breakwater, which is primarily an environmental project. But we will have to go beyond that,” Minister Boatswain said.
