Prime Minister joins world leaders in NY; Honourable Bowen to Act

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, April 19, 2016 – GIS: Prime Minister Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell left Grenada earlier today to participate in several engagements in New York City over the next few days. Key among those is the Friday 22nd  official High Level Signing Ceremony for the Paris Agreement, which was undertaken by world leaders in December 2015.

Prime Minister is expected to co-chair, along with Canada's Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, the Informal High-Level Event on promoting the early entry into force of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

On December 12, 2015, the international community unanimously agreed to work together to keep global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius, compared to preindustrial levels, and to go even further by aspiring for 1.5 degrees Celsius.

On April 22nd, "Mother Earth Day," the Signature Ceremony of the Paris Agreement will take place at the UN Headquarters in NY; with over 150 world leaders further signaling their commitment and political will to the transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient economies, taking another step toward bringing the Paris Agreement into force.
