A Clarion call is made for all Grenadians and visitors alike to join forces in the fight against Zika and other mosquito borne diseases.
According to the latest information from the Ministry of Health the spread of Zika in Grenada is real. To date, there are fifty-six (56) confirmed and three hundred and fifty-two (352) suspected cases of Zika. However, a number of Zika -related symptoms and symptoms of other mosquito borne viruses have been reported in every parish of our tri island state. It has therefore become absolutely necessary to focus the fight on the Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes the vector for these diseases.
Attention has focused on the danger of microcephaly and its effect on un-born babies but Zika can also cause Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare and sometimes life-threatening condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves of the body causing paralysis.
The Ministry of Health and the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) are collaborating with public and private entities as well as the general public in a national clean-up campaign as an urgent response to this eminent threat.
All of Grenada is encouraged to join their communities to initiate this fight for our nation sake.
The clean-up on Saturday August 20 and Sunday August 21, 2016, will take place simultaneously in all parishes through-out Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique beginning 6 a.m. on both days.
This clean-up is part of a continuous campaign against the Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes in Grenada, until it no longer poses a serious threat to our beautiful nation.
