EARTH SCIENCE WEEK – A FIRST FOR GRENADA

St. George’s, Grenada – October 19, 2015 The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) in collaboration with the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI/ SRC) will be hosting "Earth Science Week,” 2nd to 6th November 2015, under the theme ‘Understanding Seismic Activities.’

The inaugural week of activities, aimed at sensitizing the public to the region’s vulnerability to tsunamis, volcano and earthquakes, will draw from the expertise of the University of the West Indies Seismic Centre.

It is hoped that the activities would result in increased awareness of the potential impact of these phenomena.  This enhanced awareness is expected to motivate the public to adapt Seismic preparedness measures to preserve life and property.

During the week of activities NaDMA will facilitate a series of seminars, schools visits and public consultations. This will enable the general public, stakeholders from a wide cross section of the tourism and construction industries as well as the secondary schools and disaster management organizations throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique to interact with leading resource personnel from the UWI Seismic Centre.

The launching ceremony is carded to take place on Monday 2nd November, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. at the Hospitality Room, National Stadium.
