Dominica Benefit Concert raises over EC$ 60,000

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, November 27, 2015 – GIS: A Concert, held at the National Stadium earlier this month, to support disaster relief for Dominica has raised over 60,000 EC dollars, organizers have said.

The members of the Concert for Dominica Committee say the money is being deposited into the Government of Grenada Disaster Relief Fund, to be added to the funds already in that account earmarked for Dominica.

The concert was staged in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika, which caused extensive physical damage and loss of life in parts of Dominica on August 27.

The committee, headed by the Minister with responsibility for Culture, Senator Brenda Hood, moved speedily to mobilize local talent for the worthy cause.

The “Concert for Dominica” showcased various Grenadian artistes and music bands and was complemented by other regional and international artistes, including performers from Dominica.

The money raised from the concert, in addition to public contributions, will bring the figure being sent to Dominica to about $100,000 EC dollars.

The Ministry of Culture and the members of the Concert for Dominica Committee wish to thank the Grenadian public and all participating artistes for their contribution towards the success of the event.

Organisers have praised contributors for backing the initiative and have also applauded the level of support demonstrated for a neighbouring Caribbean Island.
