PRIME MINISTER COMMENDS ALL FOR "SAFE" CARNIVAL

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, August 12, 2015 - GIS:  Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell commends all Grenadians and visitors alike on what he describes as "a fun-filled and largely incident-free carnival season that reflected a spirit of optimism and the true essence of what makes us who we are.”

Prime Minister said he was "heartened by the thousands of visitors that came to our shores to celebrate with us, and [that] they did so in a healthy manner, consistent with the spirit and culture of our citizens and Island.”

The Grenadian leader commended the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders that helped to ensure that the carnival was well-executed.  Key among those were the Minister of Culture, Honourable Brenda Hood, and the team at the Spicemas  Corporation; the sponsors, artistes, and revelers who participated in the events, as well as all spectators who turned out in overwhelming numbers to the events.

Dr. Mitchell, who is also Minister of National Security, was high in praise for the Commissioner of Police and his team of men and women in uniform, who once again "went above and beyond to ensure that Grenada remains one of the safest destinations in the region.”  The Minister jovially added, "of course, we must commend our people who consistently show that fighting has no place in feting.”

When asked about his vision for next carnival, the Prime Minister said that he looks forward with optimism, to the planned symposium in September, which he hopes will "chart the way forward for the all-round development of carnival, so that it can continue being one of national pride."
