Schools Steel Pan Players Two Days Training Development on the Sister-Isle

Beausejour, Carriacou, April 03, 2014- The Division of Culture in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs continues to aim at bearing great fruits of steel pan throughout the Secondary and Primary Schools on the sister-isle of Carriacou and Petite Martinique through its Schools Steel Pan Program.

The program in 2009 inaugurated young and interested pan players from the Primary Schools and lately introduced the two secondary schools on the island.

On Tuesday 1st April and Wednesday 2nd, Schools Steel Pan Program Tutor, Mr. Leroy Sylvester, was assisted by known Steel Pan Tutor on the mainland Grenada, Mr. Dashiki Phillip, in tutoring the day’s sessions.

This initiative by the Cultural Division would help upgrade the young pan players in the musical field on the island, thus preparing them for competition on a regional level.

Pan Tutor, Mr. Dashiki Phillip, said thatalthough it is a small number of players compared to that of the mainland, there are a lot of potentials which can be developed with the right assistance.

He also added that there is a lot more work needed to be done on exposure for the talented players on the island in order for them to become more recognized as musicians.
