The reconstruction of the Top-Hill Senior Citizen Home on the Sister-Isle of Carriacou which falls under the basic needs trust fund ‘BNTF’ sixth program, completion date been extended by a further week.
The original completion date of the E.C $1.3 million project funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and Government of Grenada was September 11th 2014, however the date had to be extended to September 19th.
The extended completion date came after a site visit to the project by a number of officials that included, Consultant, Timothy Bubb, Project Manager of BNTF, Mr. Isaac Bhagwan, Community Liaison Officer at the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), Devon Britton, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Mrs. Bernadette Lendore-Sylvester, and other officials of the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs.
Apart from visiting the construction site of the Top hill senior citizens home the site visit delegation also discussed the Petite Martinique Medical Station, which is air marked to receive repairs and other initiatives the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs may have to consider under the BNTF Program.
BNTF Project Manager, Isaac Bhagwan, said that the reason for extending the date for the hand over from the contractor of the Top-Hill Home senior Citizens home is due to the delays that was meted out due to cash flow issues that h resulted in the project being placed on halt for three (3) weeks in the Month of April.
Additionally, Bhagwan said that the quality of work produced by Contractor, Bernard Lendore, is of high standard which will result in the project being completed on time, if no further delays.
The Newly Reconstructed Top-Hill Senior Citizen Home would accommodate 12 people. However, the relocated Top-Hill Senior Citizen Home at the Nurses Hostel in Belair has 19 residents presently.
Mr. Bhagwan stated that with this being the situation, there are very large rooms which can be converted to act as temporary rooms in an effort to accommodate the 19 residents come September.
However, he noted that future takings of residents should be held for further considerations as well as expansion to the facility.
