BEAUSEJOUR, CARRIACOU, May 7, 2014 – GIS: The people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique are being given an opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns on the constitution reform process.
Members of the Constitution Reform Advisory Committee, led by well-known constitutional lawyer Dr. Francis Alexis, are expected to be on island for three days to host a series of consultations.
It commences on Thursday, May 8th, 2014 at the Hillsborough Government School at 7 p.m, where residents from the eastern, northern and central zones are expected to attend.
On Friday, May 9th, 2014 it will be the turn of residents in the southern zone; which comprises the communities of Bellevue South, Belmont, Harvey Vale, L’Esterre and Lauriston and surrounding areas. The consultation will be held at the Harvey Vale Government School.
The series of consultations will culminate on the sister isle of Petite Martinique on Saturday, May 10th, 2014 at the Petite Martinique Resource Centre.
The youth of the twin isle parish is being included in the process as special meetings are scheduled with the students of the two secondary schools Bishop’s College and Hillsborough Secondary; as well as youths involved in the New Imani Program.
For over a decade the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique have been clamouring to have the name of the twin isle parish included on the passport.
The general public is being asked to make a special effort to attend and be involved in the national constitutional reform process.
