BELAIR POND BEING CLEANED

Beausejour, Carriacou, February 11, 2014- A feverish effort is being made by agricultural workers in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs to clean one of the main ponds on the island.

The Belair Pond located adjacent to the Belair Nursery has been covered with lilies, which prevents usage of the water.

When the cleaning is completed, the pond will be a major source of water supply, especially during the dry season. District Agricultural Officer Yvonne Samuel added that it will also be utilized both for commercial purposes, as well as for plant irrigation at the nearby Belair Nursery.

Meanwhile, as the Ministry continues to work towards alleviating some of the problems associated with the dry season such as low level of water in cisterns; funding has been secured from the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre for the development of a reverse osmosis system.
