Honourable Delma Thomas

 

Member of Parliament for the constituency of St. Andrew North West, popularly known as “Teacher Del”, Hon. Delma Thomas is described by her constituents as humble, compassionate and people oriented with a strong religious background that embodies good moral and Christian values that serve as guiding product for her upbringing in life.

 

“Teacher Del” is a long- time resident of the constituency having resided in Paraclete and later Mt. Horne. As an educator with twelve (12) years of unselfish experience, she initially attended the Paraclete Government School and the St. Andrews Secondary School (SASS).Following her graduation, she entered the T. A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) and obtained a Teacher’s Certificate in Primary Education and later another Teaching Certificate from the University of the West Indies, Faculty of Humanities and Education.

 

Her decision to enter the challenging arena of politics is influenced primarily in her love for God and her people. She harbors a wonderful vision for the socio-economic and infrastructural development of her constituency as well as a desire to see her people receive the effective parliamentary representation that they deserve. She holds the conviction that the presence of a true representative of the people should be both seen and felt. Her personal motto is “ACTA NON VERBA” (action not words).

 

As she bolsters and consolidates her presence in the constituency, Delma Thomas is reaching out to the aged, the young, the poor and underprivileged, those in need of support and assistance, as well as other groups, organizations and individuals. Through her personal initiative, a number of projects have been undertaken in communities throughout her area – some already completed while others are still in progress. Her work has shown a high level of professionalism and reflects an unselfish determination to be there for her people and improve the quality of their lives.

 

Delma values the family and has incorporated these values as a major part of her life – her parents, siblings, husband and children provide her with tremendous emotional and moral support. Given this positive environment, she continues to work tirelessly to ensure that strong family values are sustained and empowerment of communities prevail in her constituency. She believes that with God, all things are possible and invites you to work with her to make our vision for a better, healthier, more productive and prosperous St. Andrew’s North West become a reality.
