Grenada PM Applauds Coast Guard After Rescue Mission Saved Sailors Bound for SVG.

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, MONDAY 13 MARCH, 2017– GIS:  Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. Keith Mitchell has commended the Grenada Coast Guard for mounting a rescue mission to save the MV Persia II, which sank of the coast of Grenada earlier this month.

The MV Persia II was en-route to St.Vincent from Trinidad when it developed a leak and began to sink about nine miles off the coast of Grenada.

Prime Minister Mitchell has applauded the heroics of the Grenada Coast Guard which carried out the rescue in choppy waters and strong winds.

“Our men and women in uniform continue to make us proud by going above and beyond the call of duty. It is no wonder that Grenada continues to be ranked as one of the safest countries in the world and especially this region,” Prime Minister Mitchell pointed out.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to our competent security forces and as a government we will do whatever we need to do to ensure that they have the tools to adequately perform their duties as they put their lives on the line to serve their nation”.

The Grenada Coast Guard is being praised for a quick response in rescuing the nine-crew members who were unable to activate the pumps to prevent the MV Persia II from sinking with groceries and appliances valued at thousands of dollars
